Massive challenge beckons with MOOCS

UNIVERSITIES have been warned against being complacent about online education, the massive open online courses known as MOOCS and increasing competition for the overseas student market.

An Austrade report, “More than MOOCS: Opportunities arising from disruptive technologies in education”, just published, takes as its starting point that the US is experiencing a crisis in higher education.

It argues that this has been brought on by too few Americans seeking tertiary qualifications, too many of those who do failing or not learning anything useful and those who graduate lacking skills employers want.
